It is said that history repeats itself, and this time again Baqai Dental College successfully upheld this coveted tradition by becoming a trendsetter for all dental institutions across Pakistan. Two great visionaries of Baqai Dental College, Vice Principal Dr. Talha M. Siddiqui and Dr. Ain-ul-Haq brought up this clich in real by presenting a premier event titled, "RANG 2014: Time to Dig Up the Mine of Talent".

The talent booster comprised of a team of 102 volunteers, over 100 participants, and hard work of an entire month went into it. The 3-day event turned out to be a good platform where students of Baqai Dental College showed their inherent talents.

The rocking star-studded event featured performances of BDC students like fame Ali Gul Pirs Sayeen Tou Sayeen mixed with astounding beat boxing, to a unique Shadow Dance, from hilarious Comedy Nights Gigs to patriotic plays paying rich tribute to great Urdu maestro Itazaz Hussain, from a poignant act Bandeya to rousing act Silent Waters, from mad flash mobs to crazy old school 60s plays, play inspired by Anwar Maqsoods Angan Terha to Baqais crazy Neem Hakeem coupled with lots of other spectacular performances.

RANG 2014 consisted of three categories namely BAQAI IDOL, BAQAI THEATRE and "BAQAI GOT TALENT".

BAQAI IDOL

Under this category, BDC students were provided with a platform for showing their vocal talents in front of a jam-packed auditorium. Ms. Amber Farooq of Pharm-D bagged the title of Baqai Idol. The renowned music maestros who were invited to grace the occasion as panel judges included Muhammad Ifraheem and Ustad Bashir Khan.

BAQAI THEATRE

This 2-day event quite successfully showcased talents of BDC students. According to the audience, it remained the hallmark of the whole show wherein students showed their skills in the fields of acting, directing and script writing. On first day, judges panel of the Baqai Theatre consisted of all big names like Shehzad Raza, Shahzad Ali Khan, Tahir Kazmi and Kamran Jilani. On the second day, renowned celebrities like Faisal Qureshi, Aijaz Aslam, Ali Salman and Mohsin Talat graced the occasion with their presence.

The best script writer award went to Zubair Humayun for penning Khayal Rakhna. Ms. Hiba Rehman of BDS won the best director award for Bandeya, while Ms. Afsah Salahuddin (MBBS) clinched award for Neem Hakeem Khatra-e-Jaan. Shugal-e-Azam of Pharm-D won the award for best Comic Act. The best presentation was Ordinary Day, Love Stoned (Mime) by MBBS students. Afzal Petel of Pharm-D and Hassan Arshad of MBBS were declared best actors, meanwhile, Ms. Syeda Reda Zehra Zaidi and Ms. Sarah Khan of MBBS were the best actresses.

BAQAI GOT TALENT

Every person in this world has some hidden talent which usually goes unrecognized and cannot be categorized. Considering this reality, Baqai Medical University under the visionary leadership and guidance of its founders, Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fariduddin Baqai and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Zahida Baqai, has been at the forefront in launching Pakistans one of the largest Intellectual Capital Development Programs (ICDP) in community health and education. Similarly, the BMU also made a category for such students. It provided an opportunity to the students to show any type of skill-sets they might possess. Some of the best performances in these open categories included Football Freestyle by Naqeebullah and associates of BDS. Shadow Dance was performed by Daniyal Hussain and Ms. Samara Rais of BDS. Daniyal Hussain was declared the best all-rounder as well. Aamir Habib of BDS remained the best moderator throughout the show.

The panel of judges who graced this program with their presence included Pro Vice Chancellor Maj. General (retd.) Dr. Muhammad Aslam and Director, Student Affairs Dr. Yasmeen Badar. Other key personalities present on the occasion were Prof. Dr. Fariduddin Baqai, Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Zahida Baqai, Dr. Shoaib Baqai, Prof. Dr. Jameel Ahmed, Dr. Kashif Ikram, Dr. Talha M. Siddiqui and others.

At the end of the show, all spectators present in Baqai Medical Universitys auditorium walked off with a whole bunch of delightful memories and cherished the awesome performances.
